How can you make money selling photos of yourself? The idea may sound crazy at first, but many people actually make money by photographing themselves and then selling their images to various websites and companies. Just like with traditional photography, the potential here is limitless—you could choose to sell your images on a one-time basis or sign up with an agency and let them handle the sales for you. No matter what, it’s possible to make money by taking photos of yourself! Here’s how...
- Choose an Image
Where do you want to be? Where have you been? What would you like your future self to look like? These are all questions that may help shape your future. There are many ways people make money selling images of themselves, but in today’s lesson, we’re going to focus on taking photos of yourself for sale on eBay and Amazon. This is a great way to sell photos because it requires little overhead, yet still makes you money. To get started selling your image online, there are a few things you need: A digital camera with a tripod (you can also use your phone) A PayPal account An understanding of how eBay works (if you don’t already know) A good idea of what kind of pictures will sell well How to Sell Your Images Online: 1. Set up an eBay account 2. Take some pictures 3. List them 4. Profit! Step 1: Setting Up an Account First things first, set up an account on eBay if you don't already have one! You can sign up here. It's free and only takes a minute or two!
- Pick a Niche
The first step in making money from photos is to pick a niche. People are more likely to buy photos they're interested in, so you'll want a photo subject people are searching for on Google. Just look at what's popular on Pinterest—it might give you some good ideas for topics to shoot and sell photos of. If you're really serious about selling your own photos, visit Craigslist or eBay and see what types of photography ads have had success. You can also try searching with Google AdWords: just search by [your niche] photographs (add an exact keyword phrase like buy beach photographs) and see what pops up; these may be people looking for custom photographers in your area!
- List All the Products You Can Sell
To make money selling photos, your first instinct may be to post a profile on a stock photography site like Shutterstock or Fotolia. If you’re looking to make an extra $500 a month or so, that could work out. But if you’re serious about making money selling your own photos (and not in it for the fun of it), there are several ways you can go from here. First off, don’t limit yourself—build up your portfolio and then start pitching pictures to magazines and websites.
- Find Product Companies on Alibaba
Companies looking for images can be found through Alibaba. You’ll find a lot of them sell their products on Amazon and also have an Alibaba store with images. Simply google Amazon Products, copy and paste into your browser search bar to get started. If you can upload 20-30 photos per day you should make $300-600/month in no time flat! Just remember to take note of where they are getting their image from, so you can give proper credit if possible. When selling images online it is important that they remain yours in order to retain any proceeds should things go well with sales. Sell stock photos: It's not as hard as it sounds... but not quite as easy as I'd like either.
- Start Selling Your Images
There are a lot of photographers who charge thousands for an hour or two’s worth of shooting, and yet there are still those who don’t have an extensive portfolio. The question is: why not? If you have a camera, you have one less excuse. If you live in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or New York City then you should start shooting photos at local events—and as they say—the rest is history. You can make money with your photos by selling them directly to individuals; but if you want to get fancy, sites like Shutterstock and Fotolia will sell your images on your behalf. And yes, it's easy money; I'm making hundreds per month doing it myself. There's no reason why you shouldn't be getting paid too
